Odyssey Plans Drive Forward, Fueled by AmeriCorps NCCC Partnership, Honda and Toyota Sponsorship

The National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium has finalized plans to work in partnership with AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) to coordinate National Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) Day Odyssey 2012. National AFV Day Odyssey is a biennial event that is hosted across the nation to promote the use of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles.

AmeriCorps NCCC volunteers will work with the NAFTC to help put on Odyssey events in various locations across the country. One team of AmeriCorps NCCC volunteers will work in Indianapolis, helping to conduct the National AFV Day Odyssey Kickoff Event. Other teams of AmeriCorps NCCC volunteers will work with schools in the Atlanta, Georgia area and the Nashville, Tennessee area. Volunteers working in the Atlanta and Nashville areas will organize and conduct a classroom activity or presentation in order to educate students about alternative fuel vehicles.

The NAFTC will provide training for the AmeriCorps NCCC volunteers on alternative fuels and advanced technology vehicles through three separate one-hour webinars. These webinars will cover several topics, including a basic overview of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles, information on electric drive vehicles, and information on natural gas vehicles.

Judy Moore, assistant director of Communications and Outreach at the NAFTC, is excited for the AmeriCorps NCCC-NAFTC partnership. Moore commented, “I know it is going to be a great experience for the volunteers that will get the opportunity to participate and I hope that this is just the first step to being able to work out a much larger partnership arrangement for 2014!”

Honda and Toyota will also support the 2012 National AFV Day Odyssey, as national sponsors. Honda and Toyota were sponsors of Odyssey’s inaugural event in 2002, and has sponsored the event multiple times since its inception. Honda will be a silver level sponsor this year, and Toyota will be a bronze level sponsor .

National sponsorship opportunities are available for amounts from $10,000 to $75,000. As in the past, potential sponsors will be invited to participate in Odyssey on a national level, by pledging funds to Odyssey’s success and having a large corporate presence at all Odyssey sites through signage and the opportunity to display vehicles, components, or other related items.

All sponsorship levels will be acknowledged in the Odyssey marketing materials, including posters and brochures shipped to all Odyssey sites, and in the final Executive Summary, which is distributed to organizations across the country as well as members of the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate.

Sponsors will enjoy nationwide recognition and the opportunity to put their product/product information into the hands of more than 250,000 potential, under-reached consumers in multiple nationwide markets. We anticipate exceeding 2010 numbers of 131 sites (local events), with over 230,000 people in attendance and more than 98 million individuals reached through media coverage. Participating in this national event will allow you to partner and network with other national leaders committed to the alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicle industry. Your support will continue to be recognized long after the event is over in the widely distributed Odyssey Executive Summary.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For a review of sponsorship levels and benefits click here.
