Event Highlights: The Mississippi Development Authority celebrated National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey at the Mississippi State Capitol, with a panel of speakers and vehicle display.   The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality’s Air Division and the regional representative of the American Lung Association discussed the impact cleaner fuels have on emissions and our air quality. Representatives from NGV solutions represented the natural gas industry and the natural gas vehicle market.  Charlie Stafford of Blossman Gas, displaying a map of 241 propane stations as a visual aid, talked about successful propane conversions.  Will Hegman of Mississippi Solar discussed the market for electric vehicles in Mississippi and shared photos of the charging station installed at the Old Capitol Inn in downtown Jackson.  Next, members of the roundtable Mike Horton of North East Natural Gas District and Commissioner Mike Chaney of the State Fire Marshal’s office gave their reasons for adding natural gas and propane, respectively, to their fleets.

Event Highlights: The Mississippi Clean Fuels Coalition participated in its first Odyssey Day on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with a program and vehicle display event. Mississippi State Senator Billy Hewes and Scott Davis of the Environmental Protection Agency were the featured speakers. Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality representatives shared with the audience how they are staying on top of air quality issues on the coast as well as available diesel emission grants. Representatives of Clean Energy, Mississippi State University (MSU), and Blossman Gas presented the advantages and availability of alternative fuels. Following the presentations, attendees enjoyed lunch and were able to see and experience the alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles first hand during ride-and-drives, demonstrations, and vehicle exhibits.

Attendees had an opportunity to see natural gas, electric, flexible fuel, propane, and hybrid vehicles. An electric shuttle, the MSU EcoCAR, a high school built solar car, and an auxiliary power unit in an 18-wheeler cab were all on display. In addition to the on-road vehicles, Biloxi High School displayed its Indian Solar Racer, and KLLM Transport Services and DuFour Petroleum displayed their battery powered air conditioning provided by Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) grant funding in partnership with MSU.
